Rock Climbing at Montserrat

Situated 35km northwest of Barcelona, Montserrat is an island of conglomerate rock needles and pinnacles rising nearly 1km above the surrounding countryside, as shown on the photograph. Sometimes referred to as the 100 summits mountain, Montserrat quite simply offers some of the best multi-pitch sports climbing in Spain, and providing a fantastic playground for rock climbers. Many of the routes are between 200m and 300m long, characterised with hanging belays, as the routes are generally steep with very few ledges.
