Description

This is the definitive guidebook covering the sandstone cliffs of Cheshire and Merseyside. Many of the crags featured in the guidebook have short approaches and are in easy reach of the major towns and cities of the northwest around Manchester and Liverpool. For locals this is a great area for cragging after work, and is a worthwhile area to visit if you’re visiting or passing through the northwest of England.

The type and style of the climbing to be found is huge, from Trad at Helsby, highball bouldering at Pex and Frodsham, to sport climbing at Frogsmouth. The rock at these crags is sandstone, which has its own style of climbing, and therefore provides a different challenge to the gritstone and limestone of crags of Lancashire and the Peak District. The full list of crags covered is as follows; Helsby, Frodsham, Pex Hill, Harmers Wood, Frogsmouth Quarry, The Breck, Irby Quarry, Parbold, and some esoteric small crags in south Cheshire.

All the crags have a good introduction including local maps and approach details. All the routes are illustrated on colour photo topos, with English Trad grades used apart from French grades for sport routes and V grades for boulder problems.
