Description

This is a selective guidebook covering the rock climbing in the Labske Udoli region (or Labak in short), located in the northern part of the Czech Republic. This region borders Germany near the city of Dresden and is call the Elbe Valley in German.

The climbing in the Labske Udoli is all about sandstone cliffs and towers that are located either side of the River Elbe (therefore always find the sun or the shade). The sandstone is particularly hard and solid here, which allows for striking lines and good quality climbing like nowhere else in the region. The walls reach impressive heights of up to 80m and offer breath-taking lines that seem to shoot into the sky.

The routes at Labske Udoli are a mixture of Trad and sport. The in-situ gear ranges from bolts to rings, whilst the Trad gear utilises slings for threads or knotted slings to insert into cracks. The use of nuts and cams is banned in the area. The guidebook has a system for rating the protection on the routes, and is described as the following:
- Well bolted, effectively sport climbing (39 routes)
- Good bolting, but at times airy with “runouts” (434 routes)
- Demanding, long falls are possible and should be factored in (877 routes)
- Traditional, adventurous and at times dangerous (751 routes)
- Bad, extremely dangerous with a high risk of injury (126 routes)

In total the guidebook describes over 2,200 routes across a wide grade of grades that are all shown on topo diagrams. For each sector there is an approach map, access description, plus GPS co-ordinates and QR codes for the parking areas.
