Description

This is a comprehensive guidebook covering the bouldering to be found on the North York Moors and its east coast around Whitby. The North York Moors are surrounded by Middlesbrough to the north, Thirsk and Pickering to the south, and the coastal towns of Whitby and Scarborough to the east.

The guidebook covers 41 bouldering areas, and is split into 3 district regions. The popular western region includes the well-known areas such as Scugdale, The Wainstones, Captain Cook’s and Ingleby Boulders. The central region includes numerous areas on or around the spectacular Blakey Ridge. These generally have a short walk-in from the parking, making it possible to enjoy more than one in a day. The eastern region has many areas that have only recently been developed but does include the magical Arncliffe Woods, The Bridestones, and the coastal bouldering of Smuggler’s Terrace high above the North Sea.

In total over 2,000 boulder problems are described in this guidebook. Each area has a good location map, access information, a description of the character of the bouldering to be found, plus a boulder map. All the problems are shown on colour photo topos along with a short description.

Published in December 2014 this guidebook also contains many stunning action photographs that captures the spirit of this beautiful historic area.
