Description

The Schweiz Plaisir Sud Volume 2 guidebook describes the rock climbing and sport climbing in the Northwest Italy and the southern French Alps. The guidebook is split into 3 sections covering the following areas:

1) Valle d’Aosta in Italy - The Valle d’Aosta runs from Courmayeur to Arnad on the Italian side of the Mont Blanc Tunnel.
2) Torino in Italy – This region includes the Valle di Susa to the west of Torino, and an area around Pinerolo.
3) Briancon in France. – This region includes the Ecrins National Park in the southern French Alps around Ailefroide and the Val Durance.

In total 38 separate crags are detailed, covering routes at grades up to F6c. The style of routes range from single pitch sport routes to long alpine style multi-pitch routes, with many of these routes around 300m to 400m long. All the routes are shown on either detailed topo diagrams or photo topos.

For each of the 3 main regions covered there is an overview map along with a description of the general character of the climbing to be found. For each of the 38 crags there is a location map, along with useful information such as altitude, when the crag is in the sun and the style of climbing to be found. Further information is given on the type of equipment required, from the type of traditional gear to the number of quickdraws for the sport routes. GPS co-ordinates are also given for the parking areas.
