This Cicerone walking guidebook covers walking and cycling in County Durham. It describes 40 circular day-walks, ranging between 5km and 24km in length, as well as 10 cycle routes along old railway lines.

The walking and cycling routes explore all corners of this varied and historic landscape. They include, wild Pennine moorlands, gentle countryside, riverside walks, nature reserves, heritage sites, railway paths and the low cliff coast, passing Roman forts, ancient churches and castles.

All the routes includes practical information. This ranges from a full description, OS mapping at a scale of 1:50,000, distance and terrain information, to where to find the nearest cafe or pub, and local transport links.
