Description

This guidebook describes 35 day walks and 7 longer walk in the limestone landscapes of Derbyshire's White Peak. One of two volumes, this guidebook covers the east of the region, around the towns of Bakewell, Stoney Middleton, Ashbourne, Chatsworth, Eyam, Castleton, Birchover, Matlock and Wirksworth.

The walks are spread across this area, and primarily use well-marked paths over gentle rolling landscapes that are suitable for walkers of all abilities. The 35 day walks range between 4 and 12 miles in length, and are illustrated with extracts of 1:50,000 OS mapping, along with detailed descriptions. The 7 longer walks are covered on extracts of 1:100,000 mapping, again with detailed descriptions.

The landscape of the White Peak is fascinating, and is rich in history and art. Some highlights to explore include the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Cromford Mill, the village of Eyam that was devastated by plague in the 1660s, medieval churches, stone circles and ancient sites such as the Neolithic burial site of Arbor Low.

Published by Cicerone (revised 3rd edition), this White Peak East walking guidebook was published in May 2020.
