The route initially follows the eastern shore of Loch Lomond, then onto the wilderness of the Rannoch Moor, before finishing in the Highlands at Fort William.

It includes many colour photographs and colour extracts from the Ordnance Survey's Explorer series of maps showing the entire route of the West Highland Way. Each chapter covers a day's walk along with background information, public transport and where to stay.
